Every Quarter, your child will be given AR Goals. The goals are individualized for your child. The goals consist of : 1. Reading in correct level (based on the STAR Diagnostic Reading Test); 2. Passing quizzes with an 85% or higher overall average; and 3. Earning the points assigned
Commonly Asked Questions:
When is my child allowed to take AR Quizzes? In my class, kids may take an AR quiz in class anytime they are ready, unless I'm teaching a directed lesson, or they have work to finish. I would expect for the kids to take at least one quiz every day or two. If they are reading a chapter book, perhaps they will take an AR quiz every 2-3 days. The key is to take the quiz when your child is CERTAIN he/she has read the book carefully. Rushing is NOT recommended, and usually results in not passing the quiz with a good %, which hurts the overall average %.
What books can my child take AR Quizzes on? Any books are fine! Both our school library and my classroom library have hundreds of books for your child to choose from. They are all labeled on the book spine with the reading levels. You can also take quizzes on books from home, as long as they are in your child's reading level.
How can I find out the level of a book? I've already sent home the information on Home Connect, with your child's password. If you need another copy, please let me know. You can also access AR via this link to the AR Book Finder, which allows you to log in as a parent to look up book titles and see the reading level and point value of books.
How can I support my child with his/her AR Goal? Please make sure you are having your child do the assigned 20 + minutes a day of reading homework at home. I can really tell which kids are doing this habitually, and see them coming to school ready for AR quizzes! It's amazing, and VERY much appreciated to witness such parent commitment to education!! Additionally, go on AR Home Connect with your child's password to see his/her quizzing record. I give you permission to spy! :)
