Policy: According to District and National PTA homework standards, homework should be approximately 30 min. per day for 3rd graders. In addition, I expect students to read for at least 20 minutes (or more) a day. NEW: Please initial the Diamond Point PROJECT RED monthly calendar and return it at the end of the month to me.
Daily Homework: Daily homework will be given Monday-Thursdays. It is due the following day. Daily homework is given to reinforce concepts taught in class. It gives you the opportunity to see if your child is understanding the concepts. Please assist your child as needed, helping edit and correct mistakes. Your child will take a spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension test on Fridays. The Mustang Folder will be used as a homework folder this year. (It will probably dissolve at some point mid year--then your child may use any folder.) A Diamond Point Agenda will be given to your child to write down the day's assignments. Please sign and return the log and the Mustang Folder daily for updating.
Homework Concerns?: If your feel that the homework is taking an excessive amount of time, or is causing great frustration to your child, please don't hesitate to email me. We can work out something to benefit your child.
Projects: In addition to daily homework, at home projects will be given periodically throughout the year. You will be given plenty of time and directions prior to larger projects. Most students really enjoy the opportunity to express themselves creatively when given project-based homework.
